But for those who have hit the jackpot and pocketed more cash than they can spend in a lifetime, it's not always plain sailing.

In fact for some winners it's left their relationships in tatters, caused heartbreak, seen flings and even divorces.

One couple to have been hit by the National Lottery 'curse' is Gareth and Catherine Bull, from Nottinghamshire who won a whopping £40.6m in 2012.Last year, it was reported that the pair were living in separate homes and Catherine had been snapped without her wedding ring.

Another tell-tale sign their relationship was on the rocks was that they were no longer Facebook friends.

A bar boss then sensationally claimed former brick-layer Gareth whisked her off her feet in a fling behind his wife’s back, using the chat up line " Google me."

Mum-of-four Donna Desporte claimed Gareth used his vast wealth to woo her on a boozy night out in Tenerife.

She said he repeatedly told her “Google me. Google Me” after she brushed him off as a lying “fruitcake” when he told her about his huge lottery win.
