Ghana &Sierra Leone AFCON Qualifying Double/header Cancelled

Ghana's 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying games against Sierra Leone have been called off, Caf has announced.

The back-to-back fixtures, originally slated for Thursday and Monday, have had to be cancelled after Sierra Leone failed to meet a Fifa ultimatum, under which the matches would proceed as planned.

"AFCON Qualifier matches Ghana vs Sierra Leone & Sierra Leone vs Ghana on the 11th and 14th of October respectively have been cancelled as SLFA did not meet the conditions stipulated in the letter sent by CAF on FIFA’s decision to suspend the federation," Caf announced via its official twitter account on Tuesday night.

It is unclear what becomes of the match points that were up for grabs. While reports say Ghana could be awarded full points for the two games, other speculations say Sierra Leone will be taken out of the group completely, leaving only three teams. The results of the Leone Stars' two games played until now, in that case, would be nullified.

The West Africans were handed a ban from football on Friday - six days to the October 11 fixture - after government failed to comply with Fifa's order to have the ousted Isha Johansen-led administration of the football association reinstated.

After a meeting on Monday, government wrote to the world football's governing body, asking to be allowed to honour Thursday's game, while undertaking "processes to resolve the current impasse".

Fifa, however, vehemently rejected the proposal, issuing an ultimatum that the directive be met by 9 October 2018 at 18:00 (CET) or the Leone Stars forfeit the games.

Ghana, meanwhile, are currently in camp in Kumasi
