meters away from the high tension cables so they gave the owner the meterIn fact, it is for the good of the owner, the workers and persons who patronize the washing bay that we disconnect and close it down. The reason I say this is the workers use spray guns in their operations and sometimes when they are switching from one side of a car to the other, they spray into the air. They can unconsciously spray water onto the high tension cables and the effect will be disastrous”.
Mr. Quarcoo stated the owner has been written to and cautioned.
He said: “what we [ECG] are considering is if possible bury the cables from the section the washing bay is located before operations can resume”.
“If the owner agrees he will bear the cost either then that the place will remain closed” he added.
Mr. Quarcoo revealed that ECG will soon commence an exercise to disconnect and close down all structures located under high tension cables in the region.
Some residents have been complaining about the upsurge of structures under high tension cables.
They accused the STMA of watching on while such developments take place.
Public Relations Officer of Sekondi Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly John Laste however said the assembly did not issue the permit for the development of the washing bay.
“STMA stopped the development and prevented the developer from continuing the project through an official notice. The assembly stopped the owner on the basis that the project was under a high tension cable” he said.
“STMA cannot be blamed. By law ECG has a representative on the statutory planning committee that approves developments in Sekondi – Takoradi. And the ECG representative is supposed to ensure that all applications are subjected to their standard operating procedures” his message read.
